While coworking spaces are popping up all over the world, in Guanajuato, Mexico, a new concept is taking hold at the Devela Language School. John and Jennifer Shipp have created a digital-nomad-friendly language school in Guanajuato, Mexico that also caters to worldschooling families. The school is small at the moment, but there are plans to move to a bigger facility if the business gets big enough to do that. Language classes and volunteer opportunities are all a part of the program-offerings, but digital nomads can also network with other like-minded professionals who work remotely through this school.

Coworking seems to work in some locations, but in others, coworking spaces are eerily silent and inert. Leaving the comforts of home to go and sit in a coworking space with a sad vibe isn’t really worth it. The whole allure of coworking is the social component of being in the midst of other people who are hopefully friendly and interesting. Unfortunately, only a few coworking spaces have successfully developed a rich social environment that digital nomads want to haunt. So instead of trying to develop a coworking space that would inevitably experience ups and downs in terms of its social value, John and Jennifer have developed a digital-nomad-friendly language school in Guanajuato, Mexico.

The Devela Language School is a hub where digital nomads can cross paths through their classes and also get involved in volunteer activities like the Halloween event at Encino Park next door. Printers, copiers, scanners, and other valuable technological tools are available at the school for digital nomads who need access to these things. This is not a language school that caters to expats or people who have been relocated by their business. It specifically caters to digital nomads in terms of the class content as well as the environment as a whole.

Digital nomads can benefit a great deal from learning new languages because these are people traveling perpetually from country-to-country. As the school grows, we hope to harness some of the creative potential of digital nomads who have expertise in various fields to create a digital nomad school where people can learn the art of perpetual travel and remote work.

Through the language school, we offer special programs and mind-blowing growth experiences that travelers crave like visits to a local curandera for indigenous medicine ceremonies, hiking, tours, and more.
